CC Breckland B25/8 25 mile TT, 5 June 2019

In complete contrast to the ToC at the weekend, when driving over to Norfolk for this evening 25 mile TT, the rain started and the temperature dropped, and we were back to the spring weather I hoped we had left behind! I went from looking forward to a 25 on a decent looking course to wishing I hadn’t come, and seriously considered not starting. It was raining during my warmup, so I tried to stay as warm as possible and get my legs moving. I went down to the start, feeling very glad of my rear light as it was quite dim (due to a 19.41 start time I would be finishing late). As I started, my power meter, which had been playing up during the warmup, failed completely and I had a blank screen for the first 30 seconds or so before it finally came to life. I settled into the ride hoping that was all behind me and that I could get on with the ride. The cold was definitely not helping, and after a few miles it seemed clear that the power target I had in mind was going to be hard to keep to. This turned out to be the case and it wasn’t a good ride at all - I missed my power target by miles and it was all I could do to finish. The weather really came on grim in the last 6 or 7 miles and for the ride back to HQ - the picture gives an impression of the weather only a few minutes later as I set off to drive home. The positives were that although at least a minute down on the expected time, I came in 5th (2nd Vet) with a time of 53.25.
