Chilham Castle Duathlon, 29 Sept 2019

At the weekend I raced the Chilham Castle Duathlon which has a format of 5km trail run, 27 km road cycling and 2.5km trail run. Due to bad weather and road conditions the bike leg was shortened to 15 km. I was the only youth racing which can be a bit demotivating sometimes so I just wanted to do my best and finish the challenging course. The run was tough, a proper cross country course with hills, mud and the rain made it even more challenging. Jumping on the bike after a tough cross country run felt bizarre but soon I realised that the work I have done with Tim is really paying off and I did enjoy pushing hard although I did regret not having any aero bars to take advantage of the long straights - I had chosen to ride my road bike rather than TT bike due to the conditions.

The second run was even more challenging as it started to rain again and the ground was softer and slippery. I didn't know where I was in the race as there were 4 different distance races starting at the same time. I was happy to find out that I was second lady overall which was very rewarding after a challenging race at the end of another good week of training.
