Stowmarket CC Hilly 20 mile TT (BS33), 13 April 2019

After riding this course as a 2-up two weeks ago, I was keen to ride it flat out, and luckily this event enabled me to do so. It was a chilly and breezy day, and there were showers about as well, but luckily the course was dry and apart from a short hail shower during my ride (!) there weren’t any issues. I learned my lesson from last week and wore knee warmers, which helped my legs to stay warmer – I didn’t have any cramp issues this time. The conditions were much more difficult than two weeks ago, with the fastest times several minutes slower and what felt like a headwind most of the way around. As my first real hilly TT, I found it quite difficult to pace, as is felt like there was always something happening – uphill, downhill, round a corner, bumps in the road etc. I managed to hold my average power target until around halfway, but after that was dropping away from it, and in the Strava comparison can see that I had stayed roughly with the top 3 until around this point but after this was losing time. I’m a bit disappointed with 6thplace but certainly want to attempt more hilly courses and try and keep improving.
