Box End Sprint Triathlon, 20 Jun 2021
A 7am race start meant an early start last Sunday for the Boxend Sprint triathlon. An early race start also meant that the day had not warmed up yet and it was a coldish morning.
My race started disappointingly with a slow swim where a lost around a minute on my target. I struggled to get going in the swim as the race start was a bit rushed and I learnt I need to give myself more time to prepare before the swim start.
Onto the bike and it was cold being wet from the swim but I had time to make up from a slow swim so I focused and got chasing. I felt my bike leg was okay but I believe I could have pushed harder as I felt too comfortable at the end of the leg.
The run was an interesting cross country course with several steep hills. Due to the race being a staggered start because of covid restrictions it was hard to know how you are doing so I just tried to run as hard as I could without rolling an ankle on the undulating course. I learnt some lessons from this race and am looking forward to testing myself in some more competitive racing in the rest of the season.
Thanks to Tim for pushing me recently in training to make sure I am ready to race.
