Elite British Championships 2021 Mallory Park, 10 Sep 2021
This was my final race of the season and I was excited to race and finish off a successful season. The race start was 5:30pm and it was non-wetsuit due to a rise in water temperatures. I was feeling confident for the race but not quite 100% after being ill the previous day.
The swim was tough and felt like it was never going to end… I had an okay swim by my own standards and headed out on the bike expecting to gain places.
Sadly I felt awful on the bike and just felt empty from the start. I was caught by couple of girls and started to lose confidence and just wanted to stop. I knew stopping wasn’t an option and continued to push on and gained a couple of places but was really disappointed with my bike leg.
Onto the run I wanted to make up as many places as possible to try and rectify an awful bike leg. I didn’t feel great on the run either but was still making up places which gave me confidence. After the 2nd laps out of 4 I started to feel good on the run and continued to gain places on the other athletes. I finished the run strongly but was disappointed with the result as I had definitely wanted to finish my season with a stronger race.
We all have bad days and it’s important to learn from your mistakes to make you stronger in the next race. Overall I am really pleased with my 2021 season and have seen some big improvements in my bike and run thanks to Tim’s coaching.
Now time to take some rest and enjoy my off-season break.
