Torbay Tri 5k TT, 27 Jan 2022

After a stressful/hectic week, I really wasn’t up for this 5k TT. I had sub 20 on my mind, but didn’t think it’d happen on the day because of stress. Tim told me just to go run it anyway, if anything it would be good stress relief and what happens, happens!

I ignored my watch and ran by feel, only checking my pace on the 4th km, I was shocked to see it was sub 20 pace!

I’d planned to do a sprint finish after the last corner, but my watch binged for 5k before that!! I did a sprint finish anyway. The course came up as 100m longer, but I was easily sub 20. I’m well chuffed with 19:03 (~1min20 off my previous PB) and if I’d known I was so close to sub 19, I might have pushed a bit more!

Moral of the story: sometimes stress is good for performance.
