Kings Lynn MTB, 17 Nov 2024
A 1.5 hour race near Kings Lynn. A massive field attended this race and unfortunately I thought I lined up early but ended up right at the back of the pack. My aim was to enjoy and get round as quick as possible. I've found that MTB isn't like anything else I've done in cycling. TT it's just ride fast as possible and rely on fitness and focus, road racing it's focus, fitness and tactical. MTB seems to have everything, fitness, tactics, skill, and focus.
The horn went and the race started up a long uphill, I knew I had to just get past as many riders as possible. The track quickly narrowed into a single track which forced the riders to slow down and bunch up. I just kept calm, I rode the best I could to gradually move up the pack. The track was fast moving with some really short sharp climbs which quickly went into some really technical areas.
I latched on to a small group and was chatting going around.. I've learned that I really need to keep my head in the game and stay focused.. I did 3 laps in total and my muscles were really starting to tire.. I sprinted the last straight and managed to get myself a 3rd in F/Vet's and 4th overall in the female category. I'm super happy with the result, but definitely need to improve my fitness and skills.
Thank you Tim!
