Shouldham XC Kings Lynn MTB, 18 Feb 2024
My training has been going steady since January, taking care not to take steps backwards. I've had to take time out with providing a home for the kids, divorce and working full-time. I entered Shouldham XC MTB event just to have a bit of fun.
The heavens had opened and quite frankly didn’t stop, but everyone's spirits remained high despite the weather. A lot of people pulled out of the race due to the amount of rain and the course set new challenges with all the mud. I have did a short warm up prior the race, but I didn't do a practice lap and was riding my new bike for the 1st time. Some would say I'm crazy but I had nothing to lose and where better to try her out
I set off at the back of the field with a race up a short climb. This separated the field and I worked my way through the riders as I went. One guy slid and took me out with him on part of the track. After that my main goal was to get round safely and learn skills along the way. It wasn't until the steward said last lap that I thought just get on with it. I passed a few more riders and got to the final sprint with the finish in sight. The bike was absolutely amazing thank you #C6. I felt pretty chuffed I made it round and was even more amazed to hear that I got 3rd/6 in my age cat and 6th out of 10 ladies. Thank you all that support me.
