Cambridge Half Marathon, 9 Mar 2025
I signed up to Cambridge Half way back in August when entries opened, I had planned to train over winter but life somewhat got in the way. With some haphazard training under my belt and a summer race schedule taking shape I contacted Tim for some help. Timings just so happened to coincide that I would start coaching after Cambridge Half.
Having completed my FTP testing with Tim on the bike on the Friday, Sunday was my chance to see what I could do with the run and set a benchmark for the start of the season. I wanted to leave everything out there and see what I could do.
It was rather warm for the start of March and the start of the race was very busy, with 15,000 racing! It took a good few miles to thin out, but mission leave everything out there, meant I went like the clappers anyway.
This started to fade after 4 or so miles- it was a somewhat ambitious pace. I dug in and focused on getting to the end, the amazing atmosphere helped. I can honestly say that the atmosphere at Cambridge Half was better than the London Marathon - a big claim I know!
I made it to the end with my 2nd fastest ever Half Marathon, with my PB being 7 years ago! I was 3 minutes off of my PB, which is an achievable goal for a late season stand alone half marathon. In the meantime I have some long distance triathlons to train for, I am excited to get started with Catenary Coaching!'
