Newmarket CTC TT B10/48a, 23 Mar 2025

Davey Jones

My first TT for two years ended up being a little more eventful than intended, with wet roads and puddles as well as a last-minute route change that meant my course recce was only partly useful. it rained a fair bit on the way there but had eased off while I was warming up and heading to the start, making it not quite so bad.

The course was quite rolling with some turns, hills, junctions and puddles to keep you guessing, so a lot of the time it was more about being careful and staying upright, just getting the power down on the hills and occasional straight sections. I was probably on the aerobars for half the race or less. Partway through the race it started to bucket down with rain again and I was freezing cold by the end. The shortened course meant that after just over 7 miles the final hill was in sight, and I gave it everything I had to roll over the line and get back to HQ as quickly as possible before the hypothermia set in.

Afterwards I was satisfied mostly - would have liked to have been a few places higher on the results but apart from that hopefully it’s the start of some better bike racing for me.
