BUCS Standard Triathlon, 20 Jun 2026
Picture from a TT earlier in the year, so not the right weather!
I returned to BUCS Standard Triathlon with a goal in mind - beat last year’s time. It was too hot for wetsuits again so it was very similar race conditions.
The swim was a scary but calm part of the race. My goal is always to get through the swim so I can get on my bike faster! I managed to not go too far off course and came out confidently.
Once I got onto the bike I was happy, you can’t get overtaken if there’s no one behind after the swim to overtake you! So I spent the bike just aiming to pick off people one by one in front of me, and this was mentally very helpful and meant I came out with an average speed of 29kph which I was happy with!
Onto the run, last year this part was the biggest struggle for me. I told myself that my run training had been going well and I could do this one kilometre at a time. It was a ten minute improvement on the run from the same race last year, and this really showed how much my pacing and resilience has improved!
Overall it was a great day with personally a great result. I finished with a time of 3:09 which was a crazy 16 minute improvement on last year! There’s definitely more improvements to make, but the training must be working!
