BUCS Duathlon, 24 Nov 2019

On 24th November I competed in BUCS Duathlon at Castle Combe for University of Bedfordshire, this was my first year of competing at this event. I was looking forward to competing in this event but I knew it was going to be a challenging race due to a very strong field of female athletes and different age groups.

As I was getting ready to race we got the news that the race had been delayed, so this meant more waiting round. This meant it was hard to mentally prepare for the race because we didn’t know when it was going to start. Then we got the news that the race would go ahead but the cycle was shortened to 3 laps instead of the original 5 laps around the circuit. I was disappointed because cycling is my strongest discipline in duathlon.

I found the race very challenging as the first run started very fast causing me to try and keep up to a pace that was too fast for me.

The cycling went well and I felt that the training I have been doing has made me stronger. By the final run I was extremely tired and cold but ended up having a race with another girl with a sprint finish, which I won! Overall I was really far down in the field but the experience of racing with a stronger and highly competitive field is helping to prepare me for next season and makes me want to train harder over the winter period.
