Woburn Tri for Life Triathlon, 8 Sept 2019

On Sunday I competed at the Woburn Tri for Life Triathlon. This was a late start time of 2:30pm so I had most of the day to prepare, although I do prefer early races. I competed in the super sprint triathlon consisting of a 400m open water swim, 10km hilly cycle and 2.5km run with an uphill finish! I was looking forward to this race and was aiming to beat my time from last year. This was a big challenge as I had been away in Australia for 4 weeks and had cut down my training a lot.

A couple of minutes before my race started I got in the water and it was cold! I got myself into a good position at the front and when the race started I got into the lead of the swim going a good speed. Unfortunately I swallowed a lot of water and began to feel sick and faint. I got out the water and was told to stop the race but decided to carry on. The cycle went well but the run didn’t go as well. Leading up to the finish line there was a long hill followed by a 200 meters straight meaning it was a hard finish.

I finished the race and felt disappointed with my performance. I hadn’t beaten my time from last year and not every race is going to go well but finishing the race was an achievement as it hadn’t gone so well. On seeing the results I was surprised I was 2nd female and 4th overall out of a field of 51!
