10k Run TT, 15 Nov 2020

I was supposed to race in the Silverstone 10k today but as the event was cancelled I decided to organise my own race. I was aiming to run a sub 40 minute 10k run by the end of 2020 so this was my goal today.

The weather this morning was not ideal with strong winds and heavy rain forecast: luckily I managed to avoid the rain. Having not raced a 10k without a swim and bike first for about 4 years, I was unsure of how to pace the race. I had my Mum and sister on their bikes with me to help encourage and keep track of time for me.

I set off strongly going through the first 3km in 3:48 min/km and feeling comfortable. At 4km I had a dead turn and then had 4km with a headwind. The part from 4km to 8km was tough with a strong wind and knowing I still had a fairly long way to go. In the last few weeks I have done some longer threshold efforts in my Saturday run session which really helped in the middle of the run. Once I reached 8km I had the wind behind me and managed to find a bit more in my legs to get me to the ’finish’.

I finished in 38:58 accomplishing my goal of sub 40 minute 10k. I am hoping to be able to race the postponed Silverstone 10k in February and improve on this time with some competition to pull me on.

Since joining Catenary my running as improved beyond what I knew I was capable of and I wouldn’t been able to achieve my time today without Tim’s help and support.
