Walden Tri Club TT, 30 July 2020

This was my first race back after lockdown and my first proper ride back after taking some time out. My aim was to just complete it and have fun which I did. I put my estimate time as 35 mins for 10.2 miles and managed to do it in 30mins.

It was a lovely hot summer’s evening with very little wind. The course was a 1 lap course down a rolling hill loop. On the way out I felt strong, and it was downhill a bit more on the way out which was nice. I overtook two people in front of me on the way out which was quite encouraging. On the way back it was slightly uphill most of the way with a little bit of headwind which I could really feel as my legs began to tire. I kept my head down and really pushed on the way back because I knew that I had already done half.

Overall I was quite happy with my performance, although it wasn’t a PB it was a good effort especially under the circumstances. I really enjoyed it and felt good at the end. Next time I would like to try and use the downhills more to help me get up the hills and try to keep my cadence up the whole time.
