I was very excited before the race and looking forward to racing after almost a year. My aim was just to enjoy being able to race with no pressure.

The day started with a 5am alarm and an early breakfast before travelling to the race. I had registered, racked and was warmed up and ready to go at 7:30am.

Due to Covid restrictions the race was set-up as a time trial with athletes set off 30 seconds apart. I was unsure how the swim would go due to my lack of swimming this year but I felt comfortable in the water and was happy with how it went.

The bike went really fast. The course was flat and technical with lots of turns but was relatively uneventful. The field was very spread out and I passed two athletes on the bike but did not see anyone else. I found it hard racing and not having anyone to aim for or actually ‘race’ with.

After T2 my feet were cold and made the start of the run interesting as I couldn’t feel my feet. However, my legs felt good off the bike and my feet quickly warmed up. The run was a cross country course and was very slow. I was feeling confident in my run after a good block of consistent training thanks to Tim but I didn’t feel I could get going on the run as I was worried about rolling an ankle.

Overall I finished in 4th (2nd in AG) and really enjoyed the race - it was good to put my training to some use. Unfortunately, this will be my only triathlon this season but I am hoping to race some duathlon and road races over the winter.

Big thank you to Tim for all his help with my training this season and I look forward to hopefully another race soon.
