Calfman Triathlon, 6 Aug 2023
I have been with Tim for 3 months now and I have taken on a totally new approach to my training. Despite a bad night's sleep the night before this race I felt relaxed and confident which I have never felt like before any race as I get very nervous because I want to do well! This year I have managed to build confidence on the bike and I even go on training rides alone now which I think was the main reason for being so relaxed. Sadly things didnt go exactly to plan!
During the swim I found myself being pushed out wide of the buoys because of other swimers. I had the ability to push ahead of them but in doing so I had to go the long way round.
The bike started badly but ended well, there was a 2 foot down rule when joining the main road but providing there was no traffic the marshal didn't police this. I was going at a low speed so stopped anyway but as I tried to clip back in I decided to ride straight into the curb and ended up on the ground with some impressive grazes and plenty of blood over my bike by the end of the bike lap. I have been following my training plan to a tee but laying on the floor during a race clearly isn't going to improve my times (or so my boyfriend keeps reminding me)!
On the run I decided to hold a pace that was uncomfortable but not on the limit. Ignoring the watch was certainly a new approach for me but it seems to work and I am quite pleased with how I ran. Hopefully with a bit better luck with my cleats and continuing with my training plan my next race will be more successful 😄.
I was disappointed to make such a school boy error but I managed to recover and finish in a position I was happy with.
