Newcastle 10k, 18 Jan 2025
What a race! The first proper 10k race I’ve done and I managed to knock 7.5min off my PB, along with doing the most consistent run I’ve ever done! I was pretty nervous heading to the start line on a very cold Newcastle morning, and after finding some sweetspot run sessions more challenging recently, had been questioning my ability to hold the pace I wanted for the 10k.
Once the race had started, I realised I could comfortably settle on the pace I had aimed to push for, and was able to hold it consistently over the course. Coming into the final 2km I felt I still had a bit more in the tank and went for a sprint finish over the final km. I felt extremely proud and slightly surprised with how well it had gone. Looking back, I really enjoyed every minute of this race. I’m extremely happy with the result and have gained a lot of confidence. I’ve learnt a lot more about pacing and have lots to improve on for next time – one thing being not too conservative and being confident I can push myself a bit harder!
