MTB East Travers XC, 6 Jul 2025
This was the last race in the league at MTB East Travers XC series. I was feeling nervous after reading the gridding the night before as seeing a fresh face in the line up, I felt the pressure was on. I was currently sitting 4th in the series and knew I needed the 1st place points to get me on the podium. The course was in reverse to the one I won on in the previous week which I loved as it flowed fast. In reverse there were quite a few punchy climbs which I knew would possibly take it out of you as well as sharp switch backs.
I did my usual and didn't get off well at the start.. In fact I got stuck behind all the girls until we got into the woods. I managed to get past a few riders before the 1st climb and then pushed through the rest. Once I got past I knew I had to hold my place - the newbie was close so I just kept pushing. The ground was so dry but in places the bends were getting really loose and deep like sand. I came to a sharp bend coming in from a fast straight, I thought I was OK but the front wheel washed out and I came down hard.. Hearing the bikes coming I panicked and jumped straight back on. I could hear her so close but pushed even harder to increase the gap. When I heard the bell for last lap just gave it everything mindful of the corners now. Yay I did it! First through the chequered flag in the Elites and 2nd overall women's in the final league. I secured that podium and have gained so much for experience and enjoyed every bit of it.
Looking forward next year I need to be more focused getting fit earlier in the race season but try to keep that family/work balance. Thanks Tim for your support.
