Coventry CC TT K11/10T, 8 Aug 2020
On the 8th Aug I completed my first open CTT event! I'd been persuaded to enter by a few other riders in my club. It was a local, fast course so I thought why not!
It just so happened to take place in the middle of a mini heatwave. Women started from 2pm with temperatures of around 32°. I set off at 2:27, the last of the RLSCC women to go.
The first half of the course was flatter and had a slight tailwind, so with that in mind I was careful not to go out too hard and have nothing left in the tank for the second half. Although I'd done most of the course before, I wasn't prepared for the slight incline at the beginning of the return journey. It dragged a lot longer than I had imagined, and took my speed with it.
I'd set myself a target of between 24 and 25 minutes, but managed to just scrape by with 25:08. I was a little disappointed but given the conditions and the deceptively lumpy second half, it was a good effort from me. The other two RLSCC ladies were very similar too, a great effort from all of us (and the RLSCC men too), and we won the overall fastest women's team award. Well done everyone!
