RLSCC/Rugby Velo Club TT, 18 Aug 2020

On the 18th August my club held our penultimate time trial of the year. It was one of the flattest courses and I'd just bought an aero trisuit so I was really hoping for an all time PB!

I'd decided to cycle to the sign on rather than drive there as it was slightly closer than other courses, and gave me a good warm up. However I made the mistake of arriving too early before my start so I had mostly cooled down again before I set off. I cycled to the start line and I could feel my legs were a little achy from a workout I did the day before (I didn't think it would affect me quite so much!), but I thought this feeling would go away once I got going.

I set off but left my legs behind.. I was pushing as hard as I could but my legs just didn't feel as strong as they should have done. I could see from my average speed that it wasn't going to be a PB, but nonetheless I kept it going. The second half of the course has a slight uphill drag section which always feels like forever, and it really did take every bit of average speed I'd managed to build up on the first half!

I finished about 45 seconds slower than the time I was hoping to get, so needless to say I was disappointed with my performance. But we all have our bad days! Tim suggested putting in some easier sessions leading up to next week's TT, which has helped me get my head back in the game. Bring on next week!
