Bovingdon Bomber Crit, 2 Jun 2021

Wednesday evening means back at Bovingdon for the Hemel Hempstead CC summer series! This week the field was slightly smaller than last week, but majority of the field were very strong riders and were Cat 2s. I knew that the race would be faster with lots of attacks, so I positioned myself on the 2nd line from the front.

Annoyingly, I couldn’t get my foot clipped in quickly enough at the start so I ended up positioned poorly at the back of the bunch on the first lap. On the second lap I tried to make my way to the front of the bunch to improve my position, but this cost me a lot of energy and didn’t have the legs to stay with the group. I ended up dropping back to a small group of 3 other riders including 2 of my teammates. I thought I would see if I could help my teammates but after being lapped one of them dropped back. In the last 10 minutes there were 3 of us doing a team TT to keep pushing all the way to end of the race. This resulted in one of the riders being dropped, and me and my teammate Karine worked together for the last 5 laps of the race. At the end I finished 15th with my teammate finishing 16th out of 24 riders!
