MTB East League Round 3, 26 Apr 2026

Round 3 brought us to a brand-new course at Potash Woods. On paper, it wasn’t overly technical, but what it lacked in features it made up for with constant twists and turns — the kind of track that never really lets you settle into a rhythm.

One thing that defines this course are some sections of big tree roots. They’re still something I haven’t quite figured out. Running inner tubes, I’m always conscious of the risk of a pinch flat, so I tend to play it safe and roll them rather than attack. The downside is having to work hard afterwards to rebuild speed — something I definitely felt over the course of the race.

I got a much better start this time and went into the woods in 2nd place. Maybe those standing starts from Tim this week paid off! Being near the front meant I could take a shot at the A line early on, which was a nice bonus.

From there, the race settled into a bit of a pattern. I spent all five laps tucked in behind a friend — a much more experienced MTB rider — and it turned into a great learning experience. Watching her line choices and how she carried speed through sections was really valuable. We traded a few overtakes with other riders along the way, but if I’m honest, I didn’t quite have the legs to try and pass her myself.

There were only eight of us in the category, but I was really pleased to come away with 3rd place. Progress is definitely heading in the right direction.

Big thanks to Catenary Coaching for the support — it’s clearly paying off.
